How to Register

New and returning families can register students at any time during the year.

  • Register online: complete the Student Registration form linked on the district website under Parents > Student Registration
  • Register in person: visit your school office Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

When registering, please be prepared to provide your child's immunization records and other enrollment documents — the school office will confirm exactly what is needed.

Health requirements: California immunization requirements apply for all grades (see shotsforschool.org). In addition, 7th graders need the Tdap vaccine, 1st graders need a physical exam, and kindergartners need a dental screening — forms are available on the district's Student Registration page.

Attendance

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to your child's learning. Please schedule appointments and travel outside of school hours whenever possible, and notify the school any time your child is absent.

Report an absence:

Illness and medical/dental appointments are excused absences with a written note. Absences not verified within one week become unexcused. Three truancies (unexcused absences and/or tardies over 30 minutes) classify a student as a habitual truant under California law and may lead to a School Attendance Review Board (SARB) hearing.

Independent Study: Students who will be absent for any length of time may make up their absences through Independent Study. Contact your child's teacher or school office to arrange a contract and work for credit.

Free School Meals

All Valle Lindo students receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at no charge every school day. Students may also bring food from home.

Dress Code (Uniforms Required)

School uniforms are mandatory for all students.

  • Tops: solid white, navy blue, or light blue with a collar
  • Bottoms: solid navy blue or khaki pants, slacks, or shorts (no jeans); shorts/skirts within 3″ of the knee; skirts, dresses, and jumpers may also be dark green plaid with yellow striping
  • Spirit Fridays: school-designated spirit shirts may be worn on Fridays only
  • Footwear: secure, closed shoes with a substantial sole (no flip-flops or slippers)
  • Hats and head coverings require principal approval, except for religious, health, or other legally protected purposes
  • Gang-related items, unsafe accessories, and clothing that disrupts learning are not permitted

The District does not restrict hairstyles, hair texture, length, or color, and protective hairstyles (braids, locs, twists) are always permitted, consistent with Education Code 35183.5. Dress code concerns are handled privately and respectfully — students are never sent home or removed from class solely for a dress code issue.

Cell Phone & Device Policy

Under Board Policy 5131.8, personal devices (cell phones, smartwatches, wireless earbuds) must be powered off or silenced and stored out of sight during the school day, on district transportation, and at school activities. Exceptions are made for teacher-authorized instructional use, documented medical needs, IEP/504 requirements, and emergencies.

Student Behavior & Support (MTSS)

Valle Lindo uses a Multi-Tiered System of Supports and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) to build a safe, respectful campus culture:

  • Tier 1: social-emotional learning, bullying prevention, and clear schoolwide expectations for all students
  • Tier 2: targeted supports such as check-ins, mediation, and counseling groups
  • Tier 3: intensive supports including behavior contracts and family conferences

Suspension is used only for offenses listed in Education Code 48900 and only after other supports have been tried, except where immediate suspension is permitted by law. Students in grades TK–8 are not suspended or expelled for disruption or willful defiance. Key student expectations include: no fighting, bullying, or harassment; no weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or vape products; no energy drinks, gum, or sunflower seeds; and no leaving campus without an authorized adult signing the student out.

Technology & Chromebooks

Students agree to use school computers responsibly for learning and research, follow network rules, and report anything inappropriate to an adult.

Chromebook care: Report loss, theft, or damage to the school office right away (within 24 hours for lost/stolen devices).

Replacement fees: First incident – no charge for minor repairs; $50 for major damage or loss. Subsequent incidents – $25 minor / $100 major or loss. Fees apply only for loss or willful misconduct, never for ordinary wear or accidental failure, and fee waivers are available for financial hardship. No student will ever be denied a device, instruction, or grades over an unpaid fee.
