Superintendent's Message

Welcome to the Valle Lindo School District!
Established in 1863, this district of two schools is the third oldest in the state, rich in history and accomplishment. Both New Temple Elementary School and Dean L. Shively Middle School have earned Title I Academic Achievement Awards, and have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools and California Gold Ribbon Schools. Our mission is that all students realize their maximum potential, empowering them to become challenged intellectually, physically fit, socially responsible and culturally sensitive.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought so much uncertainty and change into our lives, changes none of us could have predicted. But, the Valle Lindo School District remains committed to our mission. The decision was made to provide a hybrid instructional model for the 2020-21 school year because it allows for the type of flexibility that these uncertain times necessitate. Due to the rapid rise in community transmissions, Governor Newsom and the Department of Public Health ordered all schools to remain closed and to start the school year with distance learning. Our teachers and staff were ready!
Our School Reopening Plan is designed to allow us to move seamlessly from a hybrid model to a full distance learning environment and back again as conditions change. Thus, we are prepared for both, hybrid and distance learning. Distance learning this year has a heightened emphasis on teacher-student engagement, including live interaction with teachers for the purpose of instruction, progress monitoring, and school connectedness.
I am so proud of our entire Valle Lindo family - our Board of Trustees, our administrators, teachers, support staff, students, parents, grandparents and guardians. You have all pulled together to make sure, no matter what, our children come first!
