General Overview of Programs & Activities

Welcome to the Valle Lindo School District . Our District, founded in 1863, has a proud and rich heritage. The District is located 15 miles east of Los Angeles and two miles south of the famous El Monte landmark, The end-of- the Santa Fe Trail

Today our students are learning and thriving in an educational environment comprised of a team of caring parents, dedicated employees and progressive Board of Education. Our goal is to prepare our students to be life-long learners, enabling them to lead satisfying and productive lives. Some of the many programs and activities designed to facilitate achieving this goal include:

• Strong instructional emphasis on academics: reading, writing, mathematics, science and social science, grades K-8.
• State-of-the-art technology and computer labs available for all students grades K-8.
• Weekly teacher meetings in focus groups to design lesson plans and share teaching strategies, enhancing instruction of content standards and curriculum.
• Staff development inservices and workshops specially designed for teachers and classified staff.
• Challenging GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program.
• Extended-day—before and after-school homework clubs.
• Summer school enrichment and remediation programs available to all students.
• Full-day kindergarten and 20:1 class-size grades K-3.
• Free band instruments and music lessons for students grades 4-8. Performing and visual arts are encouraged and rewarded.
• Students field trips and assemblies chosen to support and enrich the California Content Standards and District Curriculm.
• Effective articulation activities between 8th grade students and high school.
• Demanding physical fitness courses, competitive after-school sports programs, and prize-winning pep squad and drill team.
• Nutritious, health-conscious cafeteria menus for breakfast, mid-morning snacks and lunch servings.
• Student health, welfare and counseling programs provided.
• Parenting classes provided by ten-week courses in the Parent Institute Program.
• Active and supportive Parent Teacher Association.
• Safe, clean, and orderly campuses.
• Student dress code--all students wear uniforms supported by parents and community.
• Shared playground facilities and libraries with the City of South El Monte and Los Angeles County .
• Partners in Education with the Whitecap Foundation, Rio Hondo Community College, Cal Poly, Pomona, Edison Company, Kiwanis Club, Soroptimist International, City of South El Monte and UCLA, “ I'm Going to College Program ”.
