For the third year in a row, New Temple has earned national recognition from the Flippen Group for implementing the Capturing Kids' Hearts process schoolwide. This is the first year for Shively Middle School. Very few, less than 5% of schools nationwide have earned this distinction.
Valle Lindo adopted the CKH process four years ago, providing extensive staff training and parent information sessions. Students embraced the process immediately and together, staff, students and parents have fully integrated the process into the school culture. Ongoing staff training ensures consistency and fidelity of implementation, while also providing guidance and support to staff.
The district is prioritizing social-emotional learning and student health and wellness. Capturing Kids' Hearts is just one of the initiatives being implemented to address these challenges. Our partnership with Care Solace to provide mental health services and Smart Social to provide online safety tips for parents are two other programs being utilized by the district. Additionally, VLSD has hired a full time school social worker to begin July 1.
It is the mission of the Valle Lindo School District that all students realize their maximum potential; empowering them to be challenged intellectually, physically fit, socially responsible and culturally sensitive.
Capturing Kids' Hearts is helping us to realize our mission.
